Host: Kristin Hatcher Episode 57: $1.65B for YouTube, Live A Priority & More!

In this episode, the gang talks about Google acquiring YouTube for $1.65 billion which leads them to reminisce about Internet Deals From Hell (the ones that didn't live up to the money). Microsoft claims that Windows Live is it's top priority (even over Windows Vista) and Brad gives them a few business tips as well as discussing his latest article, "So, ya want Microsoft to do it for ya, eh?"

Derek talks about a new breakthrough in television technology; the Laser TV. Despite the potential Awesome Factor, Brad, of course, has his doubts... Kristin fills us in on a dual-mode chip that can power Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players in one unit. Will it make it to production? Brad explains some of the hot new features in WindowBlinds 5.1 and we briefly touch on Internet gaming (gambling) sites moving overseas to the EU.

Since Joel couldn't make it this week (and in lieu of any actual gaming news), we talk about GameStop/EBGames accepting Wii pre-orders starting on Friday the 13th, Kristin runs down the Top 10 "Best Selling" games of September and Microsoft hits the road for a video game ratings publicity tour. Brad discusses some of the new features in Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar and briefly touches on Sins of a Solar Empire. Brad wraps it all up with news of the 2006 GUI Championships.

I started listening when the first ep was posted, first day, this is my first post. sorry i never posted when you guys asked us to for support.

Mnemonicman, There is no video.

So waited 3 weeks this time, and no joel? Haven't listened yet, but boy, I'm already disappointed. Low filesize too? Boy, I hope for waiting 3 weeks we get something longer than 50 mins....

Is there any chance you guys will make EP 58 next week since you skipped a week? All these gaps can really loose your audience....and maybe some of your main core audience.

after listening to most of the EP, i will say, I loved it.

Frogboy: I have a question. Is it possible for you to maybe in WB 5.2 or 6.0 incorporate the ability to add taskbars on other monitors? http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

There is this program, unfortunatly it does not support Windowblind 5 themes and the taskbar it creates ends up looking horrible. It doesn't look like he will be adding support it anytime soon, and I have no clue how hard it would be to add this, but if anyone knows if it's possible it's you.

Hey fellow dudes. Sorry about missing this one. My new job really bites when it comes to my schedule. Working over 65+ hours a week at a hospital in the IT department and we're overhauling the whole security system (got hacked right before I came on board). Many late nights. I'll catch the next one fo sho. Thanks for missing me Cin ful!

Where podcasting sounds... quieter?!?!?

Why is the episode so quiet. I tried several diffrent players and and tried re downloading the file. Ifinallyhad to crank my volume on Windows and my player then run it through my home stereo and playit twice as loud as I would my tv signal.

It came through sounding great (except when windows chimed in loud enough to give cats heart attacks 2 blocks away)

Am I the onlyone having this problem???

WolvenSpectre: No, you are not the only one. I haven't heard this one yet, but the past 2 or 3 have all been very quite for me. I listen in my car, using iTrip. Recently, I have to have the volume on the car radio almost all the way up to be able to hear. This has not always been the case.

They do sound more relaxed in the audio only vertions don't they... Keep 'em comin'!

Roquen, I believe they mean quiet in the sense that the volume levels of the actual audio is lower. And yes, I too noticed the low volume in this podcast.

The volume on this episode was lower than normal on purpose. A few episodes ago, I got comments about blowing people's ears out with the intro music and some of the laughter red-lining, so I reduced the volume for this show.

It's hard to guage how the show will sound on everyone's systems. Some people have amped speakers and different sound cards, not to mention iPods and all the MP3 players on the market. We can't test it with everything, so we kind of have to try to find a happy medium. I'll crank it up a bit for the next show.

Thanks for the feedback! It always helps us fine tune a bit better when we know what you're hearing out there.

Aye, the intro music, though awesome, did do my head in first time I heard it. And it killed my sound card too (as in: buh-bye quality, hello crackly noises).

I can't believe google bought youtube. I'm really interested as to how they're going to turn youtube from something that haemorrhages money and petabytes into something that'll turn them a profit.

Anything microsoft do will, as Brad said, be evil and soulless and fail. For which I am glad, since if they actually succeed, then they'd be competing with stardock. Although I'd rather laugh if/when stardock hand them their posteriors on a plate.

PS: Limewire countersued the RIAA and their monopolising compatriots, for attempting to create a monopoly on the music industry.

Frogboy! I still fundly remember our wonderful conversations a while ago. I still remember you calling some other person "arrogant" for making the painful mistake of disagreeing with the likes of you, being a rocket scientist and all that.
